The War on Rabies is ON – INDIA WILL BE A RABIES FREE NATION!
Rabies is a 100% vaccine preventable disease. Even then, thousands of stray dogs are mercilessly killed in our country after being labelled “rabid”. Human deaths from Rabies mainly occur because people don’t take anti-rabies vaccines in a timely manner – this is not acceptable. We can’t let rabies kill humans or dogs anymore.
Rabies can be eliminated. Many countries such as Australia, Bermuda, Japan, and Mexico are rabies free. It’s now India’s turn to eliminate rabies.
How can we eliminate Rabies?
- By conducting systematic yearly anti-rabies vaccination drives for all stray and pet dogs
- Ensuring vaccination of humans if bitten by unknown dogs – anti-rabies vaccines are available at all government hospitals.

All dogs at the VOSD Sanctuary and Hospital are vaccinated against rabies meticulously every year. We have vaccinated thousands of stray dogs and abandoned pet dogs in our fight against rabies.
VOSD will organise free anti-rabies vaccination programme for stray dogs across Bangalore City starting 28th Sept 2022. VOSD Mobile Clinic will support dog lovers in getting their community/ stray dogs vaccinated at no cost.
This is an ongoing VOSD campaign to eliminate rabies in India. We are starting similar efforts in many other cities across India in collaboration with local NGOs.
