Old and deaf stray dog finds safety and a home at VOSD Hospice

Being old is not easy. But being old and deaf with multiple skin issues – while living on the streets amidst apathy – is almost unendurable. Senior dog Shinti lived through all this and more before she came to VOSD. She minded her business and lived unobtrusively on the streets for many years. But old age got the better of her:

– She developed serious skin infection that went untreated and kept her in perpetual pain

– She suffered from severe hearing impairment which meant she couldn’t stay vigilant of traffic sounds, and that in turn meant that she was at a major risk of being run over or getting injured

– Additionally, she had grown too frail to fend for food, shelter or safety

Shinti’s feeder was also moving to a new locality, thus causing her to lose her only supporter. Survival on the street would be near to impossible for the old dog given the very precarious state of affairs. So she was surrendered to VOSD under the ‘Hospice’ category for geriatric dogs category without a surrender fee.

Shinti has readily accepted the new environment at our sanctuary. She is getting regular nutritious meals and timely medical support which will ensure her health is maintained. Moreover, she doesn’t have to be wary of vehicles, and can just relax into her quiet being and focus on finding new friends. By and by we hope she will get much stronger and spend her old age pain-free.

VOSD is a permanent abode to hundreds of old stray dogs who are too ill to fend for themselves on the streets. Will you support us in bringing them home and caring for them? Please make a donation of INR 5,000 (~$63) towards the food & medical expenses of infirm elderly canines at VOSD, India’s biggest old age home for stray dogs: https://vosd.in/active-campaigns/monthly-expenses/

Old, ailing and special needs stray dogs who can’t survive on the streets can be surrendered to VOSD Hospice. For more information you can write to us at info@vosd.in
