Why should you donate to a dog shelter?

Dog shelters house too many dogs and they all need care in the form of food, medical facilities, and a safe and protective shelter. In order to establish such shelters, they need help from the community or the government. Across the world, millions of dogs get euthanized simply because there is no room anymore and they have not been adopted. If the shelters had more resources, this can be avoided. However, it is not only money that can help. People can contribute with their time, energy, donate food, and bedding, etc.

Give your time: Volunteering is always welcomed in dog shelters. You can walk the dogs, help in feeding them, be a friend to the dogs, get involved in the activities of the shelter as they try to garner funds for its upkeep. You can volunteer in an administrative capacity by answering the phones, managing the website, and promoting the shelter through social media. 

Donate supplies: You can find out what your local dog shelter needs and donate toys, bedding, crates, heating pads, food, etc. Make sure the toys are safe for dogs of all sizes, and all that you donate have been checked for quality. 

Adopt a dog: Adopting a dog from the shelter or getting one of the rescue dogs is a great way to contribute to the welfare of dogs and it would help the shelter in having one less dog to provide for.
